Prenatal Massage Raleigh NC: Popular Massage types!

Prenatal massage in Raleigh NC is becoming increasingly popular with expectant mothers. It’s important to stay healthy, calm, and stress-free during your pregnancy. Getting a regular prenatal massage in Raleigh NC will help make sure that happens! Massage therapists who are certified in pregnancy massage know the proper way to position and support the woman’s body during the massage, and how to modify techniques.

Prenatal massage is used to reduce stress, decrease swelling, relieve aches and pains, and reduce anxiety and depression. The massage is customized to a woman’s individual needs.

Reflexology

Although reflexology is sometimes called foot massage, it is more than simple foot massage. Reflexology involves applying pressure to certain points on the foot that correspond to organs and systems in the body. Reflexology is very relaxing, especially for people who stand on their feet all day or just have tired, achy feet.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is specifically designed for people who are involved in physical activity. But you don’t have to be a professional athlete to have one-it’s also used by people who are active and work out often. The focus isn’t on relaxation but on preventing and treating injury and enhancing athletic performance. A combination of techniques are used. The strokes are generally faster than Swedish massage. Facilitated stretching is a common technique. It helps to loosen muscles and increase flexibility.

Massage therapy can help a great deal of issues that you may have; chronic pain, heart disease, and more. To take a further look at the benefits of massage therapy, visit our previous posts here and here.

Most Popular Massage Types

It’s been a while since we’ve talked about some of the popular massages we offer at The Virtuous Touch. Below, you’ll find them listed, as well as a small description. Hopefully this guide will help you decide which massage is best for you! Also, feel free to contact our Raleigh massage therapists with any questions!

Swedish Massage Therapy

This is the most common type of massage therapy here in the United States.  Massage therapists use long smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements on superficial layers of muscle using massage lotion or oil. This massage is extremely relaxing and gentle. It’s also great for a first time massage session.

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy massage is massage therapy with the addition of one or more scented plant oils called essential oils to address specific needs. The massage therapist can select oils that are relaxing, energizing, stress-reducing, balancing, etc. If you’re in need of a stress-relieving massage, consider aromatherapy massage therapy!

Hot Stone Massage

Heated, smooth stones are placed on certain points on the body to warm and loosen tight muscles and balance energy centers in the body.

Our Raleigh massage therapist may also hold stones and apply gentle pressure with them. The warmth is comforting. Hot stone massage is good for people who have muscle tension but prefer lighter massage.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Our massage therapist uses slower strokes or friction techniques across the grain of the muscle. Deep tissue massage is used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury. People often feel sore for one to two days after deep tissue massage. Though it can be painful at the time of the massage, and after, the results are worth it. For more information about a deep tissue massage, contact our therapist.

If you’re ready to schedule your first massage or your next massage, be sure to visit our online appointment scheduler or call our office. We hope to hear from you soon!

As a result, less daylight and cold days can really cause a lack of energy and motivation for most of us. The term “winter blues” is a serious issue that many of us deal with during winter. Low zest for life, anxiety, and exhaustion is more prevalent between the months of January and March. If you’re looking for ways to deal with winter blues, consider taking on extra activities, getting a Raleigh massage, or some other pampering.

Sit down, relax, recharge. After the holidays, your body feels overwhelmed, overworked, and tired. At this point, you’re used to being in overdrive. • Take a break from electronic devices
  • Spend more time with friends of family
  • Talk through your feelings with someone
  • Take brisk, quick walks around the house each day

There a many things you can do to break up the day and keep yourself from being isolated from the outside world. Cold weather makes us feel lonely, tired, and stressed. The activities above can really help!

Remember, it’s national oatmeal month so now is a great time to start incorporating oatmeal into your daily diet to ensure that you’re doing all you can to lead a healthy life! Below, you’ll find more great benefits of eating oatmeal.

Massage Raleigh | Gluten-Free

According to care2.com, ” If you are gluten intolerant or have celiac disease, there is some cause for concern. Oats lack many of the prolamines  (proteins) found in wheat (gluten) but oats do contain avenin.  Avenin is a  prolamine that is considered toxic to the intestinal mucosa of avenin-sensitive  individuals.  Oats can also contain gluten from nearby wheat field  contamination and processing facilities.  However, many studies have shown that many  celiacs can consume wheat free oats with no problems.”

Lignans are thought to protect against breast cancer and other hormone-dependent cancers. They’re also known to help protect against heart disease. Fortunately, oatmeal contains plant lignans!

A study at Tufts University shows that the unique antioxidants in oatmeal called avenanthramides, help prevent  free radicals from damaging LDL cholesterol, thus reducing the risk of  cardiovascular disease.

Massage Raleigh | Protects Against Heart Failure.

A Harvard  study on 21,000 participants over 19 years showed that that men who enjoyed a daily morning bowl of whole grain (but not refined)  cereal had a 29 percent lower risk of heart failure.
